What is Meditation and Prayer?

Meditation… Towards a Stress Free Life – Meditation: What it is !!!

An ordinary person may consider meditation as a worship or prayer. But it is not so. Meditation means awareness. Whatever you do with awareness is meditation. “Watching your breath” is meditation; listening to the birds is meditation. As long as these activities are free from any other distraction to the mind, it is effective meditation.

Meditation is not a technique but a way of life. Meditation means ‘a cessation of the thought process.” It describes a state of consciousness, when the mind is free of scattered thoughts and various patterns. The observer (one who is doing meditation) realizes that all the activity of the mind is reduced to one.

A Tibetan Lama was being monitored on a brain scan machine by a scientist wishing to test physiological functions during deep meditation. The scientist said – “Very good Sir. The machine shows that you are able to go very deep in brain relaxation, and that validates your meditation”. “No”, said the Lama, “This (pointing to his brain) validates the machine!”.

What is Meditation? How does it feel?

By Kevy Michaels
I am a passionate believer in meditation, as I have been practicing meditation for over 20 years. For me, it’s biggest benefit is that it gives me clarity and it makes me feel more peaceful. I have found profound power in meditation because it separates me from myself, my ego, and from the character of who I am to the world. It is very powerful and its benefits manifest in many ways in life. In my case, it manifested as creativity, and healing.
Most people would agree or can imagine these benefits, while meditating. But I have experienced these benefits, throughout the day, after meditating, as well. …In life in general, if I keep the practice of meditation regular.
I generally meditate daily, for this very reason.
Having clarity and tranquility has a host of additional benefits that can be summarized as healing the Body, Mind, Spirit, and Soul. Science supports this.
When I meditate, I pray, as well. I have specific prayers that I’ve said for years. They are for:

  • Increasing my territory – The Prayer of Jabez
  • Healing – In body, mind, spirit, and soul
  • Abundance/Blessings – To do God’s will and to bless others. For revealing my purpose.
  • Clarity – Remove the calluses from my eyes so that I may be able to see God clearer
  • Discernment – Asking for guidance to do what God desires of me
  • Healing from Self Harm – Lack of rest, healthy lifestyle, temptations, and weaknesses
  • Productivity – Make each day production in God’s sight
  • Revelation – Reveal the mysteries of my trials so that they may be conquered?

Then I repeat Hail Mary and The Lord’s Prayer several times, as if saying a novena.

This all occurs in first stage of meditation, which is very mindful. Subsequent stages, though, separate me from the reality of my surrounding and thought.

These videos explain meditation clearly to me. I am hopeful that they are helpful to you.

What is meditation, and how does it feel to you? What is your process?

Poem

My Meditation

By Kevy Michael

Without leaving this place

Take me deeply into rest

Leave my body on the ground

For this journey

Render it useless

Close my eyes tenderly

Take me to non-existency

Force me to explore within myself

Until my soul arrives to greets me

Display lights, colors, and patterns

More than the eye can normally see

Leave me in a mesmerizing hypnosis

Before taking me further into tranquility

Then enfold me in nothingness

Suspend me in pure potentiality

Calibrate my heartbeat,

My Breath,

Mind, and

Soul

…All to the same frequency

Borrow my spirit

For a minute,

Energize it

Then quickly

Return it back to me

Then place divine fire

In the vault of my soul

Awakening me

Where my surrendered shell sleeps

As I slowly open my eyes

Elevate me above the Fray

Of the world I used to know

In my heart

Leave, if only a fragment

Of your eternal glow
