All Of This From Bob Marley Is Amazing! – Ziggy – Cedella – Damian – Stephen – Karen – Ky-Mani – Skip – Julian – Rohan – And Changing The World, On The Side

This post is dedicated to the legacy of Bob Marley.  …And the one that his children are creating today.

Bob Marley’s legacy is timeless and still resonates around the world.  That’s what some would refer to as a ‘baller’.  He lives on, even after his death.  His life-energy is stronger today than it was when he was here in flesh.  He has influenced the world, even in countries that do not understand English.

That is admirable.

I aspire to leave a legacy behind for the lives that I may touch.  This desire has ignited a flame to produce bodies of work in blog posts, poetry, short stories, recording, and videos. These works are for others to evaluate and perhaps become inspired by.

I leave this for others simply because, as life would have it, I am now too old to benefit from most of the wisdom that I’ve gained.  As they say, ‘if I knew then, what I know now’, I would have done many things differently and better.’

Such an impressive legacy is much the same as the ones left by my mother Eunice, as well as, the legacies of Martin Luther King, JFK, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Prince, Nelson Mandela, Albert Einstein, Mother Theresa, David Bowie, Tupac, and the list could go much longer.

Leaders who Left the Biggest Legacies – By Mose Niccky, A Positive Mind Blogger – January 25, 2019

“It’s never a question of skin pigmentation. It’s never a question of just culture or sexual orientation or civilization. It’s what kind of human being you’re going to choose to be from your mama’s womb to the tomb and what kind of legacy will you leave.” – Cornel West

I want to live after I die too.  This is the driving force behind the choices that I make each day and the things that I create.

When I was younger how I would be remembered did not matter as it does today.  Today, I attempt to leave nuggets of wisdom and creativity behind for others’ benefit, pretty much the same way that Hansel crumbled up small pieces of bread along her path so that she and Gretel could find their way home.

In this sense, Bob Marley, just like my mother Eunice are two of my biggest mentors.

Bob Marley’s legacy is undisputed.  His songs are immersed in elements of spirituality.  This may not be obvious to some, but his rhythm and musical artistry clearly deliver messages to others that still penetrate their psyches, sometimes unknowingly.

Bob Marley and his family are my Favorite Artists and Family for consistently creating soul-stirring music with a consistent message of love, justice, and peace.

I’ve been listening to his music since the 1970s.  Today I still listen to the same music with just as much satisfaction, only to be overwhelmed by the music of his seeds, his children, Ziggy, Cedella, Damian, Stephen, Ky-Mani, Skip, and Julian.

In Geoffrey Philp’s blog post, Bob Marley and the Seven Chakras, he describes Bob Marley as more than a pop singer, but rather a party-going, ganja-smoking Rastaman, dedicated to peace and brotherhood.   He goes further describing him as having transformed reggae music into a means of conveying the timeless truths of humanity, who has become a shaman, who used reggae as a means of evangelizing the unconverted.

Philps outlines the seven chakras of the human body that represent a sort of spiritual shorthand to the power centers or challenges that every human will face: survival, sexuality, power, love, self-expression, wisdom or ignorance, and the acceptance of grace. He associates the Seven Chakras with the legacy of Bob Marley’s music.

From his analysis, you can clearly see that Bob Marley left us with one of the greatest musical legacies about life, trials, love, war, and peace.  And, his gifts keep on giving.  Moreover, he has left his children to carry his family’s legacy forward.

Robert Nesta Marley lived from February 6, 1945, until May 11, 1981.  He would be 75 years old today.  He is considered one of the greatest pioneers of reggae.  His musical career was marked by fusing elements of reggae, ska, and rocksteady, infused with a sense of spirituality.  He is also considered a global symbol of Jamaican culture and identity, and was controversial in his outspoken support for the legalization of marijuana, while he also advocated for Pan-Africanism.[7]

In 1977, Marley was diagnosed with acral lentiginous melanoma; he died at 36 years old as a result of the illness in 1981.  He was devout Rastafarian whose faith cost him his physical life on earth—he refused surgery in order to keep his body, his temple, intact on his way to meet Jah.

In 1994, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of FameRolling Stone ranked him No. 11 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[13]

But, Bob Marley’s spirit lives on today, as though he never left us.  His spirit lives in his recordings, and in his children, and grandchildren, who amazing sound like him!

His Legacy/Impact

Bob Marley still has the ability to influence listeners all over the world with his music, even in countries where English isn’t spoken.  Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder both have the same unique gift of resonating with other people, languages, and cultures.  His messages, though revolutionary unifies by challenging colonialism, racism, “fighting against ism and schism” as he sang in the song “One Drop”.

His Inspiration

The Bob Marley’s artistry and message of Love & Peace still have an unparalleled influence upon global culture, from political refugees in Sierra Leone,  traumatized by years of bloody warfare finding inspiration through the music of Bob Marley, and one of 33 Chilean miners rescued after being trapped in a San Jose mine for 69 days, asking to hear Marley’s “Buffalo Soldier” shortly after his release.

His music obviously influences and inspires many people around the world, as evidenced by his continued popularity.  Since his passing, he has become arguably the planet’s most-recognized musician, his image used to sell a range of products from t-shirts to shoes to headphones to coffee.  He is one of the best-selling artists of all time in the world.  His album Bob Marley & The Wailers — “Legend” is one of the best-selling albums of all time, selling over 15 million copies.

Bob Marley had an estimated net worth of more than $130 million at the time of his death.  His estate is, no doubt, worth much more today.

The Life and Times of Bob Marley – How he changed the world – By MIKAL GILMORE

Since Bob Marley died ago: He has continued.   It isn’t simply that his records still sell in substantial numbers (though they do), it’s that his mission might still have a chance. It isn’t a simple mission.

Marley wasn’t singing about how peace could come easily to the world but rather about how hell on earth comes too easily to too many. He knew the conditions he was singing about. His songs weren’t about theory or conjecture, or easy distant compassion. His songs were his memories; he had lived with the wretched, he had seen the ‘downpressors’ and those whom they pressed down, he had been shot at. It was his ability to describe all this is palpable and authentic ways that sustain his body of music unlike any other we’ve ever known.  Read More

  1. Hey Kevy, thanks for stopping by my pad. I usually stick with music/film on this blog thing. But I do expand my mind at times. Don’t know much about Bob’s children’s music but I do like Bob’s. A lot. Take care. Later. CB
