Black People Get Healthy! – U Created That Back-Porch-Booty, Front-Porch-Belly & UR Poor Health –Take Responsibility – From UR Brother Kevy!

This is not a fat-shaming post. Let’s make that clear.

I am not opposed to big booties. Some are nice and shapely, like onion or bubble butts. These are the way God made them. Some, however, are big and out of shape from not getting exercise and not eating properly. Some folks don’t even try to exercise, as much as they consume. These are the ones I wish to reach with this post. I am not shaming, though.

As for ‘front-porch-bellies’, that may be a different story.

Our digestive system is the foundation of our immune system, with the gut playing the largest role. Excessive weight causes inflammation adversely affects immune cells, and can even impair cognition. Having a big belly may be a sign of more significant health issues.

Everyone can benefit from this post. It is especially aimed at Black people. But it would be nice for all people to understand what I have to say about Health & Lifestyle.

This post is also a scolding of my peeps. But it is a scolding based in love. It’s like a father chastising his son for misbehaving. I want the best for you but have to ‘lay down the law’ to let you know that I’m serious, but I do care.

Black people (and all people, of course) with unhealthy lifestyles lets be real with each other, okay?

You are a large part of the problem when it comes to the status of your health and the health of your community! I can say this. I am an African American man. That gives me street creds.

You are a large part of the blame for the disproportional impact of the Coronavirus on the African American community.

Before Coronavirus many of you were already unhealthy. Admit it.

Don’t play with me.

I am sure that I am about to get into more trouble with my ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’. I really don’t care about the haters’ reaction.

I love my people and all people, so I have to speak the unspeakable to them out of care. I’m like the true friend who tells you that you have a booger hanging from your nose.

There, I said it.

More Black people will hate me now. No problem. I get hateration all the time from my people, especially when I tell them the truth, armed with facts. Most don’t like facts or me ‘kicking science’ at them. They prefer to follow religious dogma, gossip, and news media but tend to do little research.

I even get such resistance from family members and friends who disagree, and want to be, true to their culture, and often have an attitude that ‘They’re gonna die from something.’

Next to Politics and Religion, I have learned not to talk to Black folks about healthy lifestyles unless I want an argument. Oh, they will talk to me about how well their new blood pressure, cholesterol, asthma, or insulin medication is working, but not about being healthy and facts that support them possibly weaning off of prescriptions.

Their approach to eating and lifestyle satisfies their greed, gluttony, and lust. It ignores science and sometimes their own religious beliefs.

Our namely post-slavery-influenced culture and unhealthy lifestyles are really what’s killing us and making most of us comorbid, having health conditions existing simultaneously with and usually independently of other medical conditions.

I feel that this is the main reason why African Americans are so susceptible to ‘Corona Casandra’. From what I have researched and discussed with African friends; this problem seems to be distinct to African Americans.

That’s why I associate it with American slavery.

I am not a doctor. I do believe that I am well-researched, connected, disciplined, and I research more on health every day.

I am passionate about healing by way of the Mind, Body, and Spirit.

I can’t say that I don’t take any prescription medications, but most of the time I try to avoid them. Furthermore, if I must take them, I work hard to rid my body of its side effects and toxicity, naturally. I am in a constant effort to not to have to take any prescription meds, if possible.

I passionately believed in holistic health and have practiced it for over 30 years, successfully defying many medical conventions. I do not take any vaccines, at this time, and haven’t for many years.

Based on research, experts clearly prove that good Health & Lifestyles are directly connected to good immunity.

I usually work around this by getting research information from other countries, namely India, Israel, and Germany. Also, I rely on interpretations from experts with whom I am familiar, like Dr. Axe, Dr. Mercola, TTAC, Dr. Hulda Clark Foundation, Traditional Chinese Medicine sources, and the reference links that they have on their sites.

Believe it or not, I also actually call and write doctors and scientists at random, who appear in reports, on the news, or in videos. On most occasions, they respond to my questions.

Here’s What Makes Me Say Uhm?

Beliefs, Faith, and how your Religion serves you has also been associated with better health and immunity. But the question is how well or you serving and adhering to your faith?

This is another major factor in why pandemics, such as the Coronavirus, are so significantly affecting the Black community.

We Black people must be real with themselves, others in our community, and our God.

The reason that I was sure to include Beliefs, Faith, Religion, and ones’ Image of God in the mix is that I am perplexed about the relationship between Black spirituality and living healthy.

You may not see the obvious connection right away, but I see it loud and clear.

Here are the associations that confuse me:
Aren’t our bodies supposed to be our primary temples?

Isn’t it a gift to us from God? Then why do we not worship our bodies and health as we worship the Lord? Why isn’t taking care of our bodies a spiritual act or deed to most Blacks, as It is to me? Isn’t it an equal sin to disregard your body, like any other sin?
I ask to my Faithful Scripture-Spitters, why isn’t over-eating and eating purely for pleasure and gluttony all the time, not a sin?

The bible and most religions frown on Lust and Greed. Isn’t eating ‘what you want, when you want it’ greedy? Isn’t it lustful?

This is the general rule of eating in moderation, but there are exceptions for special occasions. During celebrations such as banquets, family dinners, and so on, there is no harm in filling one’s stomach. This is a concession to promote good relationships between members of the community by eating together and sharing meals.

Getting Even Realer

As I revealed in an earlier post, I was infected with the Coronavirus. Fortunately, I did not have any noticeable symptoms. I found out about 3 weeks after being exposed. Now, it is nearly 2 months since I was exposed. I have been feeling fantastic, working out and jogging an average of 20 – 30 miles per week. I have been eating well, juicing, meditating, taking supplements, and following a few other protocols as defenses against COVID19. This is how I roll with regard to my health and lifestyle. This has basically been my normal practice for over 20 years. I am confident that I am immune. I am not sick and did not get sick after infection.

In contrast, the two people who I believe infected me did not fare as well. One has been hospitalized for about a month, as well as, the other. The latter is recovering. The former is on a respirator fighting to continue living.

I reflected on this and why I was not affected as they were. I easily concluded that it was due to their diet and lifestyle, based on observation.

Going into their home, there was an abundance of sweets, candy, and snacks. I was offered some each time. I took them and ate it as a rare indulgence. I haven’t eaten junk like that since.

They were both a bit overweight but otherwise looked okay, not obese. But, I am sure that they do not exercise as regularly as I do, nor eat as well as I do. They also took a lot of pills. I saw filled pillboxes and pills were delivered when I was there. …I do my level-best to not surrender my natural immunity and DNA to medicine upon which I will inevitably become dependent.

An additional characteristic, that may not seem related, was their beliefs. One was devoutly religious,who seemed to believe in a vengeful God, a Lord sending the plague out of anger to punish the other victim, as well as, ‘us sinners’. The other may not have been religious or spiritual at all but did seem to carry some guilty about having infected the other.

I could not say to them what I felt. It would have led to an argument. My beliefs and practices are very unlike that of the average African American. I live closer to how Rastafarians & New Thought believers do, but I do not consider myself a Rasta or a New Ager . I am not that worthy.

But, I feel that they both had the lethal characteristics to becoming severely affected by the Coronavirus: Weakness in Health & Beliefs. Most African Americans share these common characteristics.

Oh, I wonder why the Coronavirus and Comorbidity disproportionally affect this community?

I know how much nutrition, diet, and exercise defend against illness. I also know that being stressed, fearful, or worried causes the immune system to weaken. The combination of these things is what is killing African Americans. It is time that we wake up to our health status with a renew vigor to improve.

Current lifestyles, diets, and beliefs are maladies. If they continue to plague us, African Americans will be vulnerable to every new epidemic that comes out.

I noticed that friends, now have a renewed interest in their own immunity, as they evaluation how much they should isolation. That’s because they also live as the two individuals I refer to above with regard to health. They consume lots of carbs, sugar, fried foods, alcohol, and do little to no exercise, especially since they are quarantined.

In every case, when I was told about another Black person who was sick with COVID19 or who had died, I inquired about their health and lifestyle, and found that they followed the same unhealthy diet and lifestyle, as well as, had the same common diseases that have plagued African Americans for several years.

This revelation really resonated with me many years ago, when I cared for my mother.

At the initial time when I assumed caring for her, she ate the typical unhealthy New Orleans Creole diet, and was on about 13 prescription medicines, at over 90 years of age!

She was scheduled to have her gallbladder removed within two weeks of my taking over her care. I halted this from happening, changed her diet, exercised and prayed with her daily, and eventually got her prescriptions reduced from 13 to 3.

Needless to say, she lived for about 4 years after that time to a full age of 96 years. She brought her gallbladder to heaven with her. Praise God!

Taking her to doctor’s appointments in New Orleans, I noticed that the waiting area was over 90% filled with Black people. Through conversations over the years, I found that nearly all of the Black New Orleanians had the same diseases: Asthma, Diabetes, Hypertension, Cardiovascular, and Hypo/Hyperthyroidism.

Still, I couldn’t tell them, folks, anything about holistic healing, pretty much as is the case today.

…Go figure.

But the next time anyone tells you of a person, not just Black, that has COVIR19 and is struggling or dying, ask them: “Did they have any underlining health conditions or comorbidities? How were their diets and lifestyles?”

I believe that you will find that they will all fall into the same sinking boat as most Black Americans.

To be fair, ask: “How many people who suffered or died from COVID19, led healthy lifestyles, like mine?” There won’t be many if any.

Being exposed to the Coronavirus did not cause me to become ill because I lead a healthy lifestyle, eat well, exercise, become peaceful, and I do not have any of the typical African American diseases: Asthma, Diabetes, Hypertension, Cardiovascular, and Hypo/Hyperthyroidism. – Kevy

Scolding My People

Black people. We need to get our shit together with regard to health and lifestyle. We need to practice what we preach. I say, “Talk is cheap; Your words are weak’.

It may be easier for some of us to agree that some are sinning ourselves when they talk all of that gobbledygook in church, and can’t wait to overeat after church at Golden Corral, IHOP, Waffle House, Popeyes, or Old Country Buffet.

I am sure that God does not like what he sees. He will not help those who won’t help themselves. Maybe God is angry at us because we are so damn ungrateful with the amazing body that he has given to us.

Why would the government want to help us, if we don’t help ourselves? Reparations won’t even do shizzo for our bad health habits.

Faith Without Works Is DeadWhat does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. – James 2:14-26 NKJV

Do not tell me about my sinning, while ignoring the sin of your own health, and ignoring the fact that you are taking 5 – 10 pills a day, while I’m not.

We all sin. Yours may be different than mine.

Black people. Surely racism, particularly institutionalized racism, has significantly contributed to our plight, health disparities, and how the Coronavirus is disproportionally impacting us.

Studies show that our inequities in Economics, Education, Health Care Access, Neighborhood Healthy Food Access, Housing Access, and Front Facing Employment has negatively impacted virtually every stage of our lives, namely our health and diets.

I still say, So what? We have overcome and fight to overcome nearly every obstacle imaginable, and never seem to give up. We organize, protest, and vote for progressive changes in these areas. Progress is slow, especially now, but there is some progress.

But when it comes to how we exemplify our ‘good’ beliefs, religions, culture, and traditions, we ignore that we are:

  • Killing ourselves
  • Selling our lives to prescription drugs
  • Collecting Comorbidities like refrigerator magnets
  • Deforming our bodies
  • Making our asses fat and out of shape
  • Unnecessarily exposing ourselves disproportionally to viruses and pandemics, like Corona Casandra.

‘The Man’ is not doing these things to us. We are!

…Mike drop! Hate if you want to. It is our truth as a race.

I tend to speak in the strongest language to people I care about. I care about all people, but especially Black people, after all, we’ve been through, and continue to suffer through today.

But I also speak strongly and quite arrogantly to my people about this subject because they fight me tooth and nail on changing their behavior when I suggest it. They usually defend themselves with Jesus or Doctors, used interchangeably.

They say things like is, ‘Well, you goanna die from something’, or ‘She’s big-boned’, or ‘He just died of old age. You get these things when you get old.’

I’m tired of this shit and am losing friends left and right because of conflicts over health, lifestyle, religion contradictions, and medicine.

Virtual Soul Food & Black New Orleans Food Court

Now folks, don’t get me wrong. This food is good. It is really good! But you cannot eat like this all the time and expect to be healthy. Many Black people do eat like this regularly. Some Blacks are learning not to eat this way, but perhaps on holidays.

That’s more how I do. I eat well, but cheat sometimes, but offset that by working out, fasting, or eating well or light meals for the next few days.

I do not believe in placing yourself in a food prison. The stress of doing so has harmful effects on health, as well.

Whites people, the more educated, and affluent people generally do not eat this way. Oh, I wonder why the Coronavirus and Comorbidity do not disproportionally affect these communities?

Generally speaking, African Americans who eat and live poorly are likely the ones on loads of prescription drugs. These are the ones most likely with Comorbidities which the Coronavirus finds attractive.

    1. It is true. Black are at a disadvantage to being healthy for many reasons including genetics, poverty, healthcare access, and frontline exposure to diseases. But this is no excuse.

      Blacks are known to still prosper under the toughest of circumstances. We can do better in this arena too. We must.

    1. I am glad that you appreciate the post and are not offended.

      Eating properly all the time is not always easy for me so I don’t try to be perfect and therefore imprison myself mentally.

      I try to do my best on most days, but do cheat on others, fried chicken included.

      But I offset this damage by exercising, detoxing, hydrating, meditating, praying, and intermittent fasting.

      Shortly I will introduce posts on my health regiment. It will consist of 10 or more individual regiments/posts that have worked for me for over 30 years.

      The point is, don’t attempt to be perfect. We will all fail at that approach.

      Instead establish regular maintenance protocols that include several things as part of a new lifestyle.

      1. I spent many years in Eastern NC and learned to enjoy all the great foods of the culture from pork bar b que to fried chicken and collards. Now in Western NC I really miss a lot of the good foods that were not so good for me then. I eat a regular diet and try not to indulge, but with retirement comes a more sedentary life and has added on a few more pounds with my regular diet. Plus my wife is an excellent cook! Thanks for your comments in return.

        1. Continue to eat those indulgent foods, but rarely. Then you will enjoy them more when you do.

          Instead of imprisoning yourself in a food prison the easiest changes to make are:

          1. Switch to eating a variety foods and colors with each meal. Make it like artwork. The more colors (natural color), the healthier it will be.

          2. Switch from eating off of a regular or US Country Style dinner plate to eating off of a Dessert Plate.

          Over time you will adjust to smaller portions of foods. Your stomach will shrink over months.


        2. Contunue to eat the indulgent foods, but rarely.

          You will enjoy them more when you do indulge.

          Make Two Easy Changes For Health Though: Easy Peasy

          1. Add at least 4 – 6 colors to each plate of food like it is an artist’s palette. The more colors, the healthier it will be.

          2. Switch from eating off of an American Style Country Dinner Plate to eating off of a Dessert Plate.

          Your stomach will adjust to expecting smaller portions and will shrink over time.

          Thease two changes, along with hydrating well, and walking would reap tremendous benefits.
