The Spiritual Law Of Detachment – Is Not Detachment From Life – You’re Just Detached from Outcomes

“In detachment lies the wisdom of uncertainty . . . in the wisdom of uncertainty lies the freedom from our past, from the known, which is the prison of past conditioning.

And in our willingness to step into the unknown, the field of all possibilities, we surrender ourselves to the creative mind that orchestrates the dance of the universe.” – Deepak Chopra

7 Laws of Spiritual SuccessPlease keep in mind, as you read my posts, that I only share those things that I sincerely believe in, and/or practice.  Some posts on life virtues, spirituality, and health are topics on which I believe, and plan to practice or am getting better at practicing.

In every case, what I post, relates to my life as Kevy Michaels.  I have practiced the Law of Detachment for over 20 years, and passionately believe in it.

Deepak Chopra’s book, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, resonated me so well that I took heed to each of the laws as I started implementing them in my life over 20 years ago.  I was so astonished by these simple laws of living, that I shared the “good news” with everyone who I felt would be receptive.

I’ve gave a copy of the book in Costa Rica, South Africa, Europe, and many other countries, including here in the states.  I’ve given the book to friends, family, and complete strangers.

Needless to say, I am all but evangelically about the message in this less than 100 page book.

I share it with you now because I care, and I am of a loving and generous nature.  I will share these principles until the day that I leave this earth, with the hope that some or all of the laws will resonate with you, and perhaps lead you towards your spiritual transformation.

Please note that The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success is not the kind of book you read once, and ‘get it’.  It will take reading it multiple times, over many years to come.  I have read it umpteen times.  I just read the chapter on Detachment twice, in preparation for this post.

The Law of Detachment is very powerful!  It simply states that with good intentions and desires, we should pursue our dreams, but must be detached from the outcome.

This law requires the ultimate in trust.  ….Trusting God to deliver the rest.

I know that this law works, as I have experienced many examples in my life.

I was detached from outcome when I was in battle to defend caring for my mother.  In most cases, I was totally detached from outcome, as we relocated to three different states over a 4 – 5 year period.  I was detached because I felt powerless most times, but was not without power.

Detachment lead me to simply do what I felt was God’s will, and leave the rest up to Him.  I had no choice.  I had no clue what would finally happen.

Well, God revealed his will.  I persisted and my mother and I made it to the promise land, Denver, Colorado (and to San Antonio, Texas, temporarily) and were welcomed with assistance, empathy, and understanding.

I used the Law of Detachment with my blog.

I put my most personal information, pointing out my flaws, as well as, actions of others, without attachment to what this will cause, if I will get in trouble or conflict, as a result.

Sometimes I must catch myself when looking too profusely at site statistics.  I appreciate the several hundred followers that I now have, and would like millions, but am satisfied with those that I have.  This detachment instinctively calibrates my actions, and intentions, so that God can do the rest.

Detachment is the ultimate exercise in trusting God.  It does not mean detaching from live itself.

It simply states that by focusing on outcomes, we limit possibilities.  We limit God’s blessings, which are unlimited by its very nature.

Attachment is trusting yourself instead, based on the past, conditioning and beliefs.

Attachment is limiting because it does not invite or welcome greater possibility, only the ones that we conjure in our heads, based on being security.  …Only the outcomes that we have already seen or experienced.

But, wisdom is in uncertainty and insecurity.

I have a friend in San Antonio, she makes most people smile by her carefree nature, as she does with me.  She lives life vicariously, dressing how she chooses, in Stevie Nicks hippie attire, her preference.  …And with flowers in hair if she chooses to.  Her dress is a small indication as to how she lives her life.

She frequently takes trips, with little money, and no worry about how she will make ends meet, when she returns.  She goes after what she wants and pursues it, without discussion or evaluation, simply because she feels it.

Always, she does this by first putting her intentions on a particular desire out there for God and the universe.  She proudly proclaims them, and proceeds with courage.  She does vision quests often and has invited me to participate.  I have.

Such time [Vision Quests] can open up new possibilities for seeing ourselves and our world, giving us vision and strength to meet challenges or make changes in our lives. This is the purpose of the Vision Quest.” – SoulCraft – Wilderness-Based Vision Quest

You know what?  It seems she always gets what she desires.  She was able to manifest the means and availability to travel with me and Saia on a missionary trip to Costa Rica.  She really wanted to go, but had no free time, or money.

Somehow, she called one day, out of the clear blue, and was able to make the trip.  God must have wanted her there because, she is a hair stylist who ended up cutting and styling the hair of nearly fifty poor and parent-less children.

The trip itself was fantastic for her, as well as for many of us, grateful to serve, and grateful that we was with us.  God made that manifest because she set out good intentions and trusted that God would deliver the outcome of her desires.

“The Law of Detachment is a most powerful spiritual law to which I can attest.” – Kevy Michaels

It requires a true unwavering connection with God, and the ultimate in trusting him.  You cannot say or proclaim things about God’s grace, but not believe them, or trust him, in practice, and expect this law to work for you.

If you do not believe and do not trust, you will fail at this law!

The law requires surrender, which is one of my favorite virtues.  This surrender requires that our egos, and our thinking do not have the power to shape our destinies.  Our egos control nothing!  Only God does.

The Law of Detachment requires acknowledging and harnessing God’s grace…and believing in it.

Attachment says in essence to God that, “I’ve got this”.  This attitude tells God know that we don’t need his intervention.

So, we go it alone, but never figure out all the intricacies to getting to our goal.

But, with detachment, we are not startled to figure it all out, because uncertainty is built in our plan.  That being understood, we adapt to forks in the road, and don’t get our panties all in a wad.

As I searched and reviewed articles and videos on this law, I found that there’s also misleading information out there that distort how the Law of Detachment works.

The Spiritual Law Of Detachment does not mean detaching from life itself.  It simply means that you detach from outcomes, and trust that God will handle that part.” – Kevy Michaels

Personally for me, applying the Law of Detachment, I found myself trying to please God’s will in every aspect of my life, for I knew and believe that he controlled my gaining access to my dreams.

The Law of Detachment, not only led the way to my goals, over time it molded me into a better Child of God.

Here are videos and posts that I reviewed and intentionally selected to share with you to support the perspective that I’ve shared.

Please appreciate that listening to them, as well as, gaining further information from the links will take an investment of your time.  Also, the law may not resonate with you as it has with me, on the first time that you are exposed to it.  But continue to try to understand it.  Practice it.

I hope that it results in you will becoming a believer in the Spiritual Law of Detachment, just like me.

Main Points

  • The minute we relinquish attachment to outcome, along with good intentions, we can attain that which we desire.
  • Attachment is based on fear and insecurity. The need for security is based on one not knowing one’s true self.
  • If we chase after symbols of what we desire, such as material things, then we exchange our self for those symbols. …Sell our soul.
  • Attachment to outcome is poverty thinking, while detachment is wealthy thinking in contrast because it invites an infinity of possibilities, and allows God to deliver them, based on our intentions.
  • The search for security and believing that we have the ability to achieve it, is an illusion.
  • Security is “the known”, which is attachment to past outcomes. There is no growth or evolution in the past.
  • Uncertainty exists in the field of all possibilities, in the field of pure potentiality.
  • In stepping into the unknown, we instinctively factor in the wisdom of uncertainty. Every day we are more observant, and look for the excitement of what new thing will happen, while we are in the field of all possibilities.
  • Uncertainty makes us more alert to every detail as it unfolds, because we accept that there are many unknowns.
  • This alertness is key to our achieving our goals, because what most people believe as “good luck” is no more than our attentiveness, and preparedness, meeting opportunities, delivered by God.

Living detached from outcome calibrates our intentions, and actions, because we like the element of surprise and adventure in what God will deliver to us.  Therefore aim a bit harder to please him.

Steps to Practice the Law of Detachment
  1. Today I will participate in everything with detached involvement. I will allow myself and those around me the freedom to be as they are. I will not rigidly impose my idea of how things should be, or force solutions on problems.
  2. Today I will factor in uncertainty as an essential ingredient of my experience. Through the wisdom of uncertainty, I will find my security.
  3. I will step into the field of all possibilities and anticipate the excitement that can occur when I remain open to an infinity of choices.
