Is This Your Summer Season or Is It Just Plain Summer?

“Spring passes and one remembers one’s innocence.
Summer passes and one remembers one’s exuberance.
Autumn passes and one remembers one’s reverence.
Winter passes and one remembers one’s perseverance.” Yoko Ono

“While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease” – Genesis 8:22

“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.”Anne Bradstreet, The Works of Anne Bradstreet
“1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted” Ecc 3:1-2

Coming to an understanding of how seasons work in my life has been one of my most profound discoveries.

Enduring through trials and celebrating victories has taught me to appreciate the balanced orchestration of seasons in my life. …in the universe. I thank God for the beauty and for the yin and yang of it all.

I often write about trees. I believe that many poets do. I always go back to trees because they represent the seasons masterfully.

I believe that God gave us an example in trees (and in all of nature) on how he wants us to be.

Trees set an example of how to stand strong and proud during the winter season, unashamed even if scarred or naked.

And, in springtime, how to gracefully display the beauty that it took all winter to prepare for and present to the world.

On many occasions, I have walked through parks, mountain trails, and forests to get writing inspiration from trees.

As my understanding of how seasons work in my life became clearer, I began to see a pattern in how seasons operate throughout the universe, in my world, in my body, and mind. There is a Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall in all of these things, as well.

Nature has no choice…no free will. It must endure through the brutality of and appreciate the beauty of every season, as God commands it.

We have a choice, and it seems to ‘trip us up’.
We want what nature does not offer to us. Summer year-round. It’s a bit selfish.

But we forget that trees only bear fruit in one season, not year-round. This applies to us too. We should not expect victories and blessing at all time. Just is springtime always comes, so does winter.

Our resistance to season changes in our lives, mind, body, and spirit is foolish for two reasons.

One, we ‘can’t stop the time’, as Bob Marley sang. It’s foolish to waste valuable energy resisting a force that is more powerful than we are. We will never win. We would do better surrendering to the seasons in which we find ourselves, and seeking beauty in it.

The second reason why, such stubbornness is foolish, is simple. It’s because Spring Always Comes. …Always…

All we have to do is endure through the other seasons, and rest assured that better finances, health, state of mind and body will come.

God guarantees this to us, if only we emulate what trees and all of nature does.

I am hopeful that you will enjoy the supporting works that I share to complement this post –poetry, an inspirational message and music.

Seasons

By Kevy Michaels

…Seasons

…Cycles

…Divine

Winds of Change

From Darkness to Light

Sickness to Health

From Rejoicing

…To Pain

Not even I

Can stop

The gravitational pull

Those who try to fight it

Are Mulish

Senseless fools

Nothing is constant

Even a rock will change

Whether Unwilling

Or

Receptive

To the power of Yin and Yang

I’m learning by

Observing leaves

Falling from Trees

How to stand naked

With the audacity to stand

…Majestically

I’m Reflecting from the sun

…My eternal source of light

…Echoing against the moon

In the dark of the night

I’m Weathering through cycles

Like the sand fox

Endures the sun

Winters are sometimes harsh

But my springtime

Forever comes

Like A Tree

Kevy Michaels

I want to be like a tree

Grounded in the soil

Nurtured by the Sun

Stationary

For God has chosen its station

And non-resistant

Bendable, but only when necessary

Humbled by its inability to move

Seasonally losing everything

That defines its Identity

But always returning to a greater Majestic Beauty

It is welcoming to all that find refuge

In its Tranquility

…Always standing firm

Even through ferocious storms

And when it can’t endure

Fighting the battle any longer

It surrenders…

But does so gracefully

But not without planting a seed

So that its spirit lingers until time ends

Thank You God

For giving me the Tree

Thanks for showing me

Just how you want me to be

God, I want to be like a Tree

  1. Since I now understand how the entire universe is orchestrated in accordance with the Seasons. I am more receptive to every experience that greets me.
